Many visitors who come to Calaveras County feel like they are stepping back in time. Most of the buildings that line the streets were constructed during the Gold Rush, and the new buildings that were added over time have been built to reflect this historic theme. While some visitors are drawn to this historic charm, others may feel that this means there is a lack of modern amenities offered to those traveling through here.
That couldn’t be further from the truth.
Although the Dunbar House Bed & Breakfast Inn is steeped in history and vintage charm, it still offers innovative comforts for modern-day living. Along with high-speed internet, Direct TV television and a Keurig coffee maker in each room, it also has a charging station for electric cars. Not bad for a quaint, historic bed and breakfast in the Gold Country!
In fact, there are several charging stations right here in Murphys, California. One at the Dunbar House Bed & Breakfast Inn, and the other is right down the street at our sister property, the Victoria Inn. They were installed four years ago and have been used often by both guests and visitors ever since. They are 50-amp chargers that will charge Tesla and other electric cars.
A few of us here at the Dunbar House Bed & Breakfast attended the California Association of Bed and Breakfast Inns Conference (CABBI) in 2015. During this conference, we met representatives from Tesla who provided exceptional information about charging stations at bed and breakfast inns. Along with this information, Tesla offered a great deal to the innkeeper attendees of the conference to install the chargers at their businesses, and it was too good of a deal to pass up.
We saw it as an opportunity to offer additional customer service to our guests and visitors to downtown Murphys, as well as add to the other charging station just outside of town at the Courtwood Inn. Thanks to these innovative installations, there are now as many EV chargers here in Murphys as there are gas stations.
More and more people are making the sustainable switch to electric vehicles, and we wanted to make sure that we can offer them accommodations, or simply just a place to charge their car. Some visitors have arrived in town without enough power to make it home, so we were more than happy to assist them.
Guests who are staying at the Dunbar House Bed & Breakfast Inn, the Victoria Inn and other rentals associated with us, charging their electric vehicles is included in their stay as one of many amenities offered to them when they book with us. For those who are not staying in our accommodations, there is a small fee of $20 to use our charging stations. Those in need of accessibility of the chargers, whether you’re a guest or visitor, must contact the front desk of the Dunbar House Bed & Breakfast Inn to turn the system on. You can contact the front desk at (209) 728-2897.
